"Chasing Freedom"

(Last night, Mohan and I were watching Movie called Chasing Freedom. It was good movie)

"Chasing Freedom, tells the story of a
young Afghan woman (played by Layla Alizada) who is persecuted by the Taliban
for running a school for young girls and the pro bono attorney (played by Juliette Lewis) who reluctantly takes on her asylum case
after the woman is detained when she
arrives at a U.S. airport in search of refuge.

The film was inspired by a real asylum case handled by a team of dedicated pro bono attorneys for the Human Rights First at Debevoise and Plimpton. It is a sobering depiction of the nearly insurmountable obstacles that asylum seekers face when they arrive in the U.S.

For information on the Chasing Freedom Campaign, a national effort aimed at raising public awareness about asylum and detention, please contact projects@activevoice.net or visit the Active Voice website at http://www.activevoice.net/Chasing_Freedom.shtml. Check the Court TV website for screening dates and updates about the movie at http://www.courttv.com/movie/.

Mickey at Marina? from Channel Asia

SINGAPORE: One month before the four bidders for the Sentosa integrated resort (IR) put their cards on the table, comes a stunner: The winner could face a theme park rival, right here in Singapore. Mickey Mouse - who has spurned the advances of Johor - could come to town.

According to market talk, US-based operator Walt Disney has been in discussions with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on a possible theme park in Marina East. The site in question is an empty plot of land beside the new 18-hole Marina Bay Golf Course at Tanjong Rhu, operated by a unit of NTUC Club, Lianhe Zaobao reported yesterday.

While some areas around the golf course have been marked for development - such as for the 30 ha Marina East Garden - the use of this plot of land "has not been decided yet", said the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Although Disney and STB would neither confirm nor deny the rumours, a source told Today that negotiations have been progressing well.

"The talks went further than they have ever gone before," he said.

In the 1990s, Singapore almost had its own Disneyland in the Seletar area, but the deal fell through because Disney wanted a huge 300 ha chunk of land - over four times bigger than its Tokyo attraction - but was not prepared to fork out its own money.

Disney eventually went to Hong Kong because its Government owned 57 per cent of the whole operation. On why Disney may bite this time, the source said: "Disney could be emboldened by the plans for the Marina area, including the IR there, and agree to come since so much is being done to attract tourists."

It remains to be seen whether the government offers to take a stake in the project, how large the park will be and how the proposal affects the Sentosa IR aspirants. Genting, for instance, is counting on rival park operator Universal Studios as its trump card for the Sentosa race, while Kerzner International is likely to operate its own water-based theme park. Said Mr Sean Monaghan, an analyst at Merrill Lynch: "The viability of the Sentosa theme park will be dependent on the kind of competition it would face. Just five weeks before submission, it would be difficult for the government to announce anything major that will affect their plans."

Still, if Disney is successfully wooed, the head-on competition here could prove interesting, he said.

"If Singapore adopts the Hong Kong Disneyland model, then the private investors in Sentosa IR will effectively be in competition with the government," he added. According to reports, it's believed that the Singapore Disneyland - if it goes through - would be of the same scale as the 70ha Tokyo theme park.

This small scale, and Singapore's hot weather, could lead to Disney adopting a new generation of indoor theme parks that its CEO Robert Iger floated last year in a Wall Street Journal report.

He said there were "three or four entities in the world, locations with money, that are looking for site-based entertainment" - full rides and shows within a building.

"I'll call them theme parks but they won't necessarily be along the same lines as parks we've built before ... In the next year to two years ... we will commit to creating a new concept or some entity outside the US," he said then. Analysts pointed out he could be hinting at Singapore.

STB declined to confirm anything yesterday but said that it was always on the lookout for major tourism projects, beyond the two IRs. It said it maintains a "healthy dialogue" with key players, but did not identify anybody. A Disney spokesperson added that Singapore continued to be a good market but it had nothing to announce.

Whether Mickey Mouse will cause unhappiness among the Sentosa bidders remains to be seen, as three of the quartet - Genting, Kerzner and Harrah's Entertainment - remained tight-lipped when asked to comment. The fourth, Eighth Wonder, hailed Disney as the "undisputed global leader" in the theme park industry, taking a dig at Genting's tie-up with Universal.

Mr Nicholas Mak, a director of consultancy and research at Knight Frank, is more sanguine about the potential tussle between rival theme park operators.

He said: "Look at Gold Coast. It has three theme parks, yet each of them is different. Without these parks, Gold Coast is just a small town with nice beaches. So why not two in Singapore? This will really make the whole place more exciting." - TODAY

BIGGEST PAH for captional in Singapore!!!!!

FYI: The American people got a Closed captional silver machine in 1978. I think, There had only provided about 5 channels show. how do I know about this? I saw this CC machine, when I was a kid.
A lot of An American people was really trilliing that George Bush Sr, who was Signature for ADA laws and he was president from 1988 to 1995.(George Bush JR is sucker now)haaha. When the ADA law passed in 1990 then, the CC required to do almost of all Channels TV showing. In few years ago, Sucker Bush Jr cut the budget for Closed Capttional for around 10 thousand dollars;however, The government cannot cut Closed Captional at the education purpose Tv show: discovery, animal plant, and kids education show to Deafies people. mostly American people got angry about this for cut the 10 thousand dollars. Anyway, There have a lot of provide for Deafies people to enternment to watch TV and movie. In movie, they have open Captional for deaf people in special time. The open Captial for deaf people is: www.insightcinema.org I do really happy for Adrian to do working hard for better service for Deafies Singaporean. I cannot wait to see our TV turn CC or subtitle on this coming summer. I am sure that my wife will happy to watch TV often due to her love to hear the news on the TV. I will taken photos of NEWEST CC at Singapore on this summer. My point is that If there is set up the subtitle or Close captional for deafies Singaporean peoople on Sept 25... You must say "thank you to Adrian Yap to doing this for your own country!!!!!!!

from Adrian Yap: I got the good news from my friend that MDA will provide captioning services for certain programmes at certain time slots. It is definitely a biggest breakthrough in the deaf history in Singapore where many deaf are at their disadvantage when they watch the English news. Currently, there are no captions being provided simultaneously with the newscasters and there is no way for the deaf and hard-of-hearing to catch the newscasters reading the news. For years, we have been fighting for the news to be incorporated with the subtitles but many a times, our request for the captioning has been flatly rejected due to the small population of the deaf and lack of fund to provide captioning service.

If you wanted to get more info about an America Closed Captional web site is

As a fiqure for Social Change!!!!

This is Hines Ward Jr and his Korean mom in Seoul,Korea.

This morning at 10am, I got a cereal and ready to watch TV for espn(sport tv). I saw Pittburg Steelers players named Hines Ward Jr. I know he is half Korean and an American. When wines and his Korean mom arrived to Seoul,Korea. I saw his mom was stock to see all of Korean people took photos of them. He explained us that he was not accept on his own true ID as a Half Korean, and lives in Gerogia. He got MVP during superbowl past year. When he got a award by multiracial Korean children and to encourage social and political reform. Ward cried when describing the discrimination he faced, He said " I am apologized that I am ashame for being a I am Korean". He made me tear and made me feel happy that he is doing right thing to visit korea for his true ID and understandable better. I realized that I am trutly lucky to visited Japan for four times and got feel a lot of understand who I am.

Ward's mother (Kim Young-hee 김영희) is Korean and his father (Hines Ward, Sr.) is African-American. In 2006, Ward became the first Korean-American to win the Super Bowl MVP award. This achievement threw him into the media spotlight in South Korea, a nation with a blood-based social registry that restricts the rights of those not of full Korean blood.

From April 3 through May 30, 2006, Ward returned to his birthplace of Seoul for the first time since his parents moved to the United States when he was one year old. Ward used his celebrity status to arrange "hope-sharing" meetings with multiracial Korean children and to encourage social and political reform. Ward cried when describing the discrimination he faced. At one hope-sharing meeting, he told a group of children, "If the country can accept me for who I am and accept me for being a Korean, I'm pretty sure that this country can change and accept you for who you are."[2] On his final day in Korea, he donated $1 million USD to create the Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation, which the AP called "a foundation to help mixed-race children like himself in South Korea, where they have suffered discrimination."
