Karen's writing this on Oct8th
Wow,I really can't believe that Kazu has a good memory. He always shook my shoulder and disturbed my prayer every night because I turned back so that he can sleep alone. He always likes to talk all the time so he started to chat with me about his cousins, toys, numbers, etc. Then he suddenly mentioned his daddy's name to me last night.
he signed with his cute hands,"daddy covered mouth with mask.He was sick."He repeated it twice.
I nodded and asked him he can remember about daddy's sick.He said yes!
He kept asking me why daddy was sick. I told him that daddy never drink water or never sleep longer. That's why he was sick.
He said,"daddy won't let him go near him as he was sick.He can't play with him."
I nodded again and told him he can't play with daddy.Daddy is worried and pass "sick" to him.
hee....I think that he could remember daddy's mask which can be attracted. That's why he knows about his daddy being sick.I appreciated Kenichi's concern and hygenic towards Kazu.
So Kazu asked me why I never sick.I replied to him that I drink more water and sleep early.I pray every night.that's why I am strong mummy.
Then he signed happily,"I am also strong.I am never sick."
He always likes to be winner and wants to show that he is stronger and better boy.Thank God for blessing him and giving him strength and courage.Thank God for guiding me how to bring him up too.
good bye on Aug 14th
Sigh....I must say Kazu had grown up and can understand why his daddy is not here. He's already 3 years old now.Well,Kazu and I went to see Kenichi off at the airport. After checking in,then we went to have breakfast for a while.Kazu was so restless and don't like to sit too long so we walked around Terminal 1.We also took photos of one another since Kazu pointed at big "stars" with many roses.I already told Kazu about his daddy's departure but he shook his head. When it was time for Kenichi to depart, then we hugged and Kazu refused to let him go.I told him that his daddy needs to go and work there. He asked where daddy goes.I told him that it's america so he asked me repeatedly where he goes.I told him that it's very faraway place. So Kazu wanted to follow him but I told him that he don't have so much clothes and passport too.He said he has passport and I keep it but I told him that I leave it at home.He did not care but he still wanted to follow daddy.I told him that he can't go with daddy cuz' he don't have passport so he started to cry and insisted on going with him.I told him patiently that he will be caught by the policeman if he did not have passport but he kept saying I kept his passport. So I control my tears and pulled him away from daddy's arm.Kazu cried loudly and banged the glass window when seeing daddy leaving the airport. He refused to wave bye or blow kiss to him.I told him to say bye and use his hand to wave.He cried loudly and waved his hand to his daddy finally. When Kenichi was out of his sight, then we wiped our tears with tissues. We walked to mrt. Then Kazu suddenly asked for daddy and started to cry again.I told him not to cry and his daddy will come back again. He shook his head in his disbelief so I forced myself to control my tears cuz' I did not want others to wonder why kazu and i were crying at changi airport mrt. Then I carried him and hugged him.So I tried to distract him by playing with him.He was all right and seem to accept that daddy is not around now.Sometimes,he talked about his daddy and said that his daddy always sit with me beside him in the mrt.I think he still remembers daddy though he did not cry any more.

Rinko Kikuchi for Babel movie
Babel movie! (This is Schoolgirl in Japan for style of the sock)
I read several interviews with the hearing actress, Rinko Kikuchi who played the Deaf Japanese character in Babel, but nary a mention about deaf people or sign language (except for 'body language', 'facial expressions' and silence. But then I found this:
INTERVIEWER: I'd like to ask you about the auditioning process for Babel, because you said it took almost a year.
RINKO: I really tried to do my best, almost desperately so. It was a lot like a love relationship: I really wanted him to look at me and see me. At one point, Alejandro (the director) remarked that he preferred to have a real deaf-mute woman play the character and, sure enough, on the next audition every candidate was deaf-mute except me! Alejandro is very frank. He speaks his mind and doesn't hide his feelings, but sometimes that put a lot of extra pressure on me. I believed that, compared to those other candidates, I had the ability to approach the character as a professional actress. If it was the part of a criminal I was auditioning for, would that mean that only a real criminal could play that role? Of course not. I kept that in mind and believed that I had what it takes to do the part as a professional actor. The character of Chieko is sixteen, but if I had been sixteen myself, I couldn't have played her the way I did. When I was that age, I didn't have the capacity to keep an objective view of such a character and at the same time retain a very positive attitude toward playing her. I wouldn't have been able to keep a distance from it.

Rinko was nominated for a best actress oscar last night, but did not win. What do you think? Only professional actors/actresses can act?
What about "City of God" (one of my all time favorite movies)? Nearly all of the actors/actresses in that movie came from the slums the movie was filmed in. And in my opinion, this made the movie more real, period. Hire a criminal to play a criminal in a movie, sure! I'm all for that. No one can really understand what it is like to be DEAF except for DEAF people themselves.
